Rarity! XIX century. Modern (Art Nouveau)

A figure you may never see again! Antique sculpture in perfect condition!

An incredibly lively, powerful, aggressive beast, frozen in a threatening roar, is made of terracotta in Bohemia, during the period when it was part of Austria-Hungary in the Art Nouveau style.

At the bottom in the test number 585.

Magnificent plasticity of a powerful angry bear, a clear study of the smallest details of the sculpture.

Height 8.5 cm, length 15 cm

Item is original!

There is a hairline crack on the bear's hind leg. The crack is practically invisible to the eye. Otherwise, it is in good collectible condition.

Bohemia is the initial name of the area on which the Czech Republic was formed, and in the period from 1526-1918 - the official name of the Czech Republic, which was part of the Habsburg Empire. It was here, in 1853, that several small factories worked, one of which was bought seven years later by modeller Eduard Eichler and opened E. Eichler Tonvaren - Fabrik. In 1862, he purchased a plant in Schelty and actively increased production.

Initially, the factory does not produce porcelain, but stops at the production of terracotta, faience and majolica. The secret of porcelain was strictly kept by Chinese masters, and in the European part they learned how to make porcelain only in the 18th century. Terracotta products are the production of three-dimensional ceramics from natural clay. Clay mined in quarries is left in the air for 1-2 years, after which it is cleaned of stones by machine, crushed through coarse and fine grinding rollers. In the clay crusher, the mixture is moistened until a plastic state is obtained, ready for the production of products.

Transfer possible during a personal meeting in Paphos. Or secure purchase through the Etsy online store.
