Japanese antique porcelain figure of the amulet of the mystical creature Komainu with a golden magic ball, Kutani, 1900s.
Koma Inu (Lion of Buddha), a mythical creature, is a dog with the head of a lion, an expressive cabinet sculpture of the Kutani workshops.
With its two front paws, the Koma Inu rests on a magical orb of wisdom, carved and gilded.
According to Japanese beliefs, images of Komainu, or the Lion Buddha, protect against evil spirits and are amulets for homes, premises, and storage. Such amulets in the form of KOMAINU decorate the premises of banks, offices and insurance companies.
