Rare! Antique Early 20th Century KARL ENS Volkstedt

A large, unusually realistic and refined author's sculpture of a hunting dog following the trail of an animal is made of magnificent glazed porcelain.

Judging by the hallmark, the inscriptions next to the hallmark on the bottom under glaze and the shape of the bottom date from 1900-1920. Also at the bottom there is a green inscription stating that the sculpture is hand-painted. Underglaze green mark of Karl Ens on the bottom, the famous mill. Also in the test under the glaze, model number 2438.

Signed A. Büschelberger. At the hind paw of the dog in the test under the glaze is the author's mark of the sculptor. See photo. The rarest case when the author's signature was used on the work of this manufactory!

Very beautiful, exquisite work. Hand-painted with underglaze paints in soft colors typical of original KARL ENS works in the early 20th century.

Excellent collectible condition! No acquired defects. No chips, cracks, scratches, visible defects. For a large sculpture of this age, the preservation is truly unique! At the foot of the dog's hind paw, it looks like an oven crack.

Anton Büschelberger came from a family of artists. His father Georg Friedrich Christian Büschelberger was already a sculptor. In 1870 the Eger family moved to Neuses near Coburg. After attending the technical school for ceramics in Teplitz, Anton Büschelberger finally studied painting in Munich . In the years 1899 and 1900 he worked in the workshops for arts and crafts of the company Schumacher & Co. in Osterode am Harz .

He then set up his own business in Dresden and opened a studio there . In August 1899 he married Anna Seibt from Teplitz-Schönau. This marriage produced four sons, including Friedrich Büschelberger , who emulated his father and also became a sculptor.

The focus of his artistic work was on realistic animal sculptures , which he often had cast in bronze at the Kraas foundry in Berlin . He obtained the templates for the animal sculptures in the Dresden Zoo, where he filled numerous sketchbooks with designs. For many years, Büschelberger also worked as a freelancer for Friedrich Karl Ens ' porcelain factory in Rudolstadt-Volkstedt, Thuringia . This collaboration ended in 1931 when the manufactory was hit by the global economic crisis .

Paintings by the artist are also known.

After his death in 1934, Anton Büschelberger found his final resting place in the Johannisfriedhof in Dresden
